We will be holding an exhibition of our work at Waverley Library this month starting on the 29th through to the 19th of July.We are very excited to be presenting some larger wall pieces in this gallery setting as well as other wearable works.We hope you can come along.

SISTERS IN THE FELT

Amanda Holland designer and textile artist and her sister Belinda Holland artist and art educator have teamed up along with nephew and son Gus Holland- Burns art/ design student to create truly handmade and homemade felt,(wearable art) .
Exploring what the amazing process of felting, can create is truly remarkable and addictive.Sharing this is extremely fun and life affirming!(no we are not based in California )
We want to create items to wear that are totally original one off pieces that are really interesting in both colour ,texture and design and will allow the wearer to make a unique fashion statement,while also being truly sensual to wear.Each piece is a one off item no two pieces are the same and they are hand made and originally designed.Buying and wearing items made with this care and individuality is a far cry from buying mass produced and off the shelf .
We talk to each other all the time about how these materials (wool and silk) work together, and experiment as well with other processes and materials to see what we can come up with.Felting offers us great opportunities to expand our creative practice.Colour inspires us and we love finding new colours and combinations as well as experimenting with new felting techniques.A change in seasons and the colours,shapes and textures in the natural world inspire us .Other sources of inspiration may come from the close examination of an early modernist painter,or the abstractionists and the colours,shapes and images they put together in their work.But always there is the wool that just lives and moves as you watch and play with it,and this is inspiration itself!
